Halloween is a great time to get into dive into fun, fall-themed crafts with a warm cup of cider. But when you have a new baby in the mix, your holiday season will likely look a little different compared to years past. But if you’re not ready to hang up your crafting hat, there are plenty of ways to celebrate spooky season with your baby. And of course, they don’t have to be overly complicated. Here are a few of my favorite, easy crafts to do with your baby this Halloween:

1. Painted Pumpkin Footprints

Footprint art is a delightful craft that captures a sweet moment in time while celebrating Halloween. Pick up some some non-toxic paint from your local craft store or on Amazon and paint your baby’s feet with a small brush. Then, you simply press your baby’s foot onto a small piece of canvas, which forms a colorful, unique print. For best results, paint your baby’s feet with a small brush and THEN place the painted feet on a canvas. This activity is sensory-rich while giving you a precious keepsake!

The little print can be transformed into a pumpkin with some vines, a stump, or other shapes. However, my own husband said they looked more like squash than pumpkins. Still, even a little squash falls in line with a fall theme. If you want a rounder shape, you can try this art with handprints instead of a footprint. Depending on your creativity, these prints can be enhanced with simple paint details like jack-o’-lantern faces.

2. DIY Halloween Sensory Bottles

Sensory bottles are an inspired way to stimulate your baby’s senses while immersing them in a soft, spooky Halloween theme. These bottles can be filled with colorful water, glitter, small Halloween-themed confetti, or plastic shapes like tiny pumpkins, bats, or skeletons. As the baby shakes or rolls the bottle, the contents swirl and sparkle.

I tried my hand at this one using a handful of crafts from a local dollar store and re-purposed my breast milk storage bottles for sensory bottles. Of course, make sure to supervise this activity with your little one for any potential choking hazards if the cap comes loose.

3. Ghost Footprint Art

Transforming your baby’s tiny footprints into whimsical ghost shapes is a fun and easy craft. Plus, the ghosts turned out a little better than the pumpkins. However, you will need to paint a canvas black first or use dark canvas or construction paper. Using white baby-safe paint, gently press your baby’s foot print and then add eyes and a round mouth with black paint or markers to form friendly ghost faces. You can also opt to use goggly eyes for this fun Halloween-themed keepsake.

4. Handprint Spider Art

Along the same lines, try dipping your baby’s hand in some black paint and make little spider art on a canvas. You can add details yourself with eyes, webs or extra legs, if desired.

5. Halloween Themed Sock Puppets

Halloween themed sock puppets are a fun and cozy craft that lets parents and babies explore colors, textures, and fun characters. Using clean, colorful socks as the base, you can add eyes, felt teeth, fabric scraps, and yarn to create a variety of Halloween creatures.

Sock puppets also offer endless customization possibilities and could even start an annual tradition. Plus, playing with the sock puppets with your little one is a great way to bond and get a few precious baby giggles.

6. Halloween-Themed Baby Mobile

A few bat and ghost-themed crib mobiles are enchanting Halloween crafts that add a gentle touch of spookiness to your baby’s nursery. Made from lightweight felt or fabric, the shapes of bats, ghosts, and pumpkins can be sewn or glued onto strings and suspended from a circular frame, creating a captivating new mobile. I tried my hand at this one as well, and I will warn you that this craft does take a bit more creativity than the others to get it right. But, with a little time and effort, it could be a very fun craft to do with your little one.
